OC Beach continues to showcase their talent to Valley Vista by sweeping the Monsoons 5-0. The Eagles was lead by sophomore Emma Soncrant and her senior partner Shayla Leslie in the 5’s pair with strong start to win the first set 21-11. Some unforced errors gave the Monsoons an early lead but Soncrant/Leslie quickly adjusted their game and finished the second set 21-15 to give Eagles 1-0 lead.

Junior Ashlyn Rough and new partnership of sophomore standout Liana Huesca showcased great control and discipline play in the 4’s pair match. In the first set, Rough/Huesca started off very strong with their finesse shots, sets, and chemistry. The Monsoons competed point for point til technical timeout but the Eagles finished on strong aggressive plays to give the second set finish 21-14 and give 2-0 lead to OC Beach.

New partnership in the 3’s show some great promise for freshmen Piper Rama and another junior standout Tristin Smith. They had control of both sets with a 21-11 and 21-12 win to give OC Beach the overall win 3-0. Smith and Rama both have a 3-0 record for the season and will continue be a huge force throughout the season to help the team be successful.

Another new partnership of Corpus Christi commit senior Hannah Doyle and junior Stephen F Austin commit Sophia Myers dominated in the 2’s pairs. The two started out first set and had control of the game 21-11. Myers/Doyles had a slow start in the second set trailing but their high level skills and mental focus couldn’t stop this strong duo and won the match 21-12 to give OC Beach 4-0 lead.

OC”s final match of the day was the 1’s pair of juniors Sydnee Broadway and Margo Smith. Both Broadway/Smith continue to work together to build their chemistry and will be another huge role for the team’s success. This is the only the 3rd time playing together and will be one of the top pairs in the state to chase. Their quiet humbleness and leadership has become an impact for the Eagles and continue to showcase their chemistry throughout the season. They took the win in both sets 21-8 and 21-6.

Next match is Wednesday at Westwood high school and Thursday home match vs Desert Vista. OC Beach is hosting their 5th Annual OC Beach Invitational on Friday, April 2, start time 11:00 AM. Schools competing are Deer Valley, Mountain Ridge, Queen Creek, Northwest Christian, Perry, and Hamilton.
