The Eagles are going to the Ship!! The OC beat the Coyotes of Skyline 9-4 behind a complete game pitching effort from Mitchell DeCovich. DeCovich spread out 8 singles and struck out 5 for the CG. The Coyotes struck first, continuing their momentum from Friday night with 4 runs to ambush the Eagles. But from there the Eagles settled down and got two 1-2-3 innings in a row to settle in at the dish.
In the 3rd inning the Eagles got on the board with singles from Noah Burgarello and Nolan Gorman. After a wild pitch, Greg Bozinovich drove in the first run with a sac fly, followed by a Mason Skaugrud RBI single. The OC would rally again in the 4th scoring 3 runs with 2 outs thanks to a Bozinovich grounder up the middle that was thrown into the dugout. Skaugrud would again top off the scoring in the 4th with an RBI single. Bozinovich was a one man wrecking crew on the day, driving in 3 more runs in the 5th with a bases loaded double to right, clearing the bases. The OC would take on one more in the 6th with a Tristen DeJesus sac fly.
But the story of the day was Mitchell DeCovich who responded after the first inning to put up 6 zeros in a row. In the 7th inning with the 3 hardest outs in baseball, DeCovich went strikeout, groundout and strikeout to finish off the game. Nolan Gorman was 3 for 3 on the day scoring 3 runs, Colton Kucera was 4 for 4, and Greg Bozinovich had 4 RBI (while driving in 6 runs!). The Eagles will meet the Evil Empire from Mountain Ridge for the Arizona State Championship Tuesday night at 7 pm at Tempe Diablo stadium.
