In a great game not indicative of the score, the Eagles came up short on a come from behind victory by the Corona Del Sol Aztecs 7-2. The Eagles played great baseball through 5 and 1/2 innings, taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th. Cole Dickson was lights out through 4 innings and Daniel Schwartz pitched a clean 5th. In the 6th the wheels fell off and the Eagles gave up a 7 spot to surrender the lead. 2 runners reached safely for the Eagles in the 7th, but they just couldn’t overcome the momentum shift. The Eagles finish off the tournament 3-2 and start up AIA play Tuesday at Tolleson for a fun night game opener.
What a great 5 innings we played. Tough to lose a game in this fashion, but we learned alot about ourselves and our team over these 5 games. I couldn’t have been prouder of Cole Dickson pitching his tail off and Marco Becerra behind the dish as a freshman against a top 5 team. We obviously have some things to shore up but I feel good about this group.
Tough to see a game so close the whole way the an umpire call, balk, on a 3-1 pick allow the go ahead run to score. I in no way blame the umps for this game because we did allow things to get out of hand, I would just rather the players dictate the actual run that seals it.
The challenges keep coming and I am excited to see how we continue to deal with them.
1st varsity hit:
The freshman Marco Becerra got a shot in the 5/6 hole for his first hit. So happy for the kid.
We learned a bunch about this team, now back to practice Monday to make sure we don’t allow a track meet to break out again like that 6th inning. Pretty pumped to finish a tourney at 3-2 with this kind of competition.
