In the second round of the AIA state playoffs, the Eagles couldn’t hold onto the lead, and lost to Mt. Ridge 7-8. The Eagles took a 7-1 lead into the top half of the 6th and things started to unravel. Four singles in a row from the Mt. Lions, followed by back to back sac flys cut the Eagles lead to 7-4 entering the 7th. From there the Eagles just could not close the door. The bases got loaded with walks and hit batsmen, before back to back doubles took the 8-7 lead for the Mt. Lions. The Eagles offense was strong today, led by Mason Skaugrud going 2 for 4 including a big 2 run bomb. Chase Valentine, Colton Kucera, Barrett Skaugrud and Brendt Morgan all had multi hit games. This finished the season for the Eagles with a combined 17-10 record.
Sometimes you are on the right side of history, and sometimes you are just on the wrong side. Last year we had the feel good story and this year it was their turn. If you are in competition enough and willing to step in the ring for a fight, sometimes you are going to get knocked out. I thought our guys competed very well until the end and I was so proud with how we came out fighting from the get go, we just couldn’t finish this team off. The last 3 outs are always the hardest to come by.
Mason Skaugrud- Man he crushed that ball in the 4th. When he puts a good swing together it looks so right, great moment for the young man.
Brendt Morgan- Kid has been crushing the ball the past couple weeks and really was impressive today with a double to the wall in the 4th and single in the 7th.
Cal Lambert- Pitched his tail off. If we couldn’t pulled that game out, we would be talking about how huge it was for him to strand the runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the 6th to maintain the 3 run lead.
Max Peters brought his swole self out from 2017.
The Gorman family was out (didn’t say hi)
Sutton Family out (didn’t say hi)
Mike Cornish (former AD)
Thankful to all the fans for their support.
Our guys competed and we had everything set up the way we had planned all week. Just couldn’t get it done. I am proud of all of our guys and appreciate their fight. We will sleep easy this summer. Tip the cap, Mt. Ridge had the magic today. Good luck to them the rest of the way.
