In the first game of an away-home series, the Eagles took the first one 4-0 over Mt. Ridge. Barrett Skaugrud threw a complete game shutout, scattering 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4. A pitchers duel into the 4th when the Eagles loaded the bases on a leadoff single, walk and misplayed bunt. With one out Brendt Morgan hit a deep sac fly to center for the first run. Then Amari Bartee drove a 2 strike pitch off the base of the wall in right field for 2 more runs. That would be all Skaugrud would need as he was dominant throughout the game. Colton Kucera was 2 for 3 on the day with 2 runs, including a double steal of home. These two teams are back at it on Thursday at the OC to finish out the regular season with the Eagles Senior Night.

Coaches Corner:
Again this game like many others came down to a handful of plays:

1. In the 2nd inning after a leadoff single, a bunt was fielded by third baseman Brayden Nichols who threw the runner out, as the runner from first tried to take 3b, Mason Skaugrud fired a strike to Barrett who was covering 3rd and put the tag on.

2. In the top of the 4th with no outs and runners on first and second, Cal Lambert put down a great sac bunt towards the 3b line. The pitcher set up to 3rd but couldn’t get em there, and by the time he re-adjusted to 1st, Lambert was gonna be there. We put the pressure on them.

3. In the 4th with bases loaded, Brendt Morgan came up huge with a sac fly. We had bases juiced no outs, but struck out the batter before. We needed to get that run in to get the momentum, and we did.

4. Next batter Amari Bartee was down in a 2-2 count and crushed a ball to the right field wall up in the jet stream. A 3 run lead was huge for Barrett to settle in.

Barrett Skaugrud was real good tonight. It might be time to put him in there with the other Mt. Lion hunters of the OC, like Owen Sanborn, Brendan Erickson and Noah Kelly.

Who is this? :
From one day to the next I don’t know who this team is. One day we have very little fight and roll over for a 0-10 loss, then the next we do just about everything right and come away with a huge victory. High school baseball is a roller coaster.
