In a much different rematch from Tuesday’s 13-3 victory, the Eagles had to go extras to take the victory from BC, 7-4. The Eagles controlled the game the whole way taking a 4-1 lead into the 7th, but the Jags wouldn’t go down without a fight. After a quick out in the 7th, a bloop, catchers interference and walk loaded the bases. A single to left would score 2 runners and bring the tying run to second, winning run at first. A quick fly out to left would be followed by another bloop single to right that would tie the game and keep runners on 1st and 3rd. Luckily another bloop to right would be caught for the final out of the inning and send these 2 teams to extras. In the 8th the Eagles would strike back with 3 runs thanks to a Jacob Miller single up the middle with runners on 2nd and 3rd and a Kolt Kurzman RBI single to finish off the scoring. Jacob Denstone would strike out the side to finish the game.
Ball players- Sometimes catcher are built in a way were they are destined for one position and a courtesy runner. Not these 2 guys: Landon Boyd and Preston Lucas. These 2 young men are ballplayers. They have both showed they can catch at an elite level, but what surprises some is their ability to play multiple positions well, both of them have started at first, and their ability to run the bases. These 2 guys are really fun to watch.
Big finish: Boyd led off the 8th with a walk, then on a hit and run he went first to 3rd on a Garrett Anderson single up the middle. Anderson stole second with the infield in, setting up Jacob Miller for the heroics. Miller drove a line drive up the middle to score both players and secure the victory.
Pitching: Cannon Smith again just muddied the game up and found his way pitching into the 5th with a quality start, in this case only 1 run. Then Jacob Denstone came in in a tough situation (tying run at 2nd, winning run on 1st with 1 out) and got 3 pop ups to get out of the inning.
Gameball: Preston Lucas had 3 hits on the day and an RBI.
Rivalry Week: This finishes off our early season work and prepares us for the final 3/5ths of the season including next week vs. The Evil Empire with an away and home series. The Eagles travel to the Mt. Lions on Tuesday and they will come to our house on Friday.
