OC beach had a great showing today competing against Mountain View Mesa sweeping them 5-0. With a very young team showcasing their talent, their future is bright. In the 5th Seed, freshmen Sarah James had her first match win in her debut varsity match with sophomore partner Tristin Smith. Both players had great control the whole match. It was a slow start in the first set but slowly they took the lead and won first set 21-16. In the second set, they had a commanding lead of 11-1 at the opponent timeout. Then took control rest of the set and won 21-9 to give OC beach 1-0 lead.

On second court, 4th seed of talented sophomores Sophia Myer and Ashlyn Rough dominated their match winning both sets 21-9, 21-8 to give OC Beach 2-0 lead. Both of these players have a big future ahead of them and they continue to challenge their teammates to be on their toes to help the team be successful. Myers and Rough had a huge upset at the OC Beach Invitational beating the OC#2 pair of Freeman and Martin.

OC 3’s seed of juniors Trinity Freeman and Shayla Leslie also took charge on the court and winning the match 21-12, 21-17 to finalize the win for OC Beach 3-0. With their third season on varsity, these two have shown great improvement in the game, leadership, team support and dedication.

OC 2’s seed of Freshmen standout, Sarah Lewis and senior partner Morgan Pacione (committed to ACU – Aberline Christian University) is another pair to be on the look out. They took control of the match beating in straight sets 21-12, 21-12 giving OC Beach 4-0 lead and one match away to be a sweep. These two have continued to improve their game each week as they were in the championship match at the OC Beach Invitational almost beating out the OC 1’s pair of Broadway and Doyle.

OC 1’s seed of sophomore standout Sydnee Broadway who is committed to GCU and junior Hannah Doyle dominated their final match of the day 21-11, 21-6 to sweep Mountain View Mesa 5-0. Broadway/Doyle will be a top pair that is looking to qualify for state pairs championships. They have been working hard to improve their chemistry to fine tune their game and push their teammates to strive for state bound championships.

In 6’s, OC junior Presley Simon and freshman Jaylie Watson had control of their match as they beat Mountain View Mesa 21-8, 21-8. Simon’s third season as varsity player continues to compete to help her teammates to be challenged. Her positive work ethic helps the team to unify as a team and work together. It was Watson first debut match in the exhibition match and dominated her skills. She will be another player to watch for throughout the season. We also have Senior Brianna Bigelow and sophomore Haley Wellman the beat Mountain View Mesa in three sets. Both players has been with Varsity program since their freshmen year. The improvement in these players has shown in these matches and continue to strive to be the best.

This young program will be on the radar this season and hoping to surprise lot of the opponents and have the outcome that they strive to achieve.

Next match for OC Beach is Wed, March 11th as they host Ironwood Ridge and JV match will have their first match of the season!
